Re:transfer between categories?
Thank you for the post. We'll try to get to the transfer issue this month. For transfers, your total may be off if you're using the same category in the deposit and the withdrawal since they may be canceling each other out. Please send a screenshot to service@budgettracker.com and we can investigate it further if that isn't the issue.

Re:transfer between categories?
I noticed that it's possible to use the Transfer feature that is used between accounts to also transfer between categories. I don't know if you ever resolved the issue I was having before with year-to-date and whatnot, but I'm guessing not since it's not marked as completed in the site updates section. I tried doing some transfers via the other method and I think it's useful, but it's reflecting kind of oddly. it shows up in the transactions when I click on that area within my budget, but it's somehow affecting the totals wrongly. I can send you a screenshot to better explain if you want. I just really need to figure out the best way to do this since I anticipate having to do it somewhat every month...

Re:transfer between categories?
thanks, I will work with the override for now by unchecking the carryover feature for each category before I do a transfer. I really appreciate your work on this!!!

Re:transfer between categories?
Thank you for the email. This looks like it has to do with how budget transfers are handled. We'll be making some modifications during September to fix this issue. Currently when you make a transfer it overrides the amounts but this does take into account when you switch between carry over and regular budget items. We'll post an update once this feature is implemented. For now, you'll need to manually adjust your override amount to what it should be with the transfer.

Re:transfer between categories?
woohoo! I figured out where the error is: when I have the carryover UNchecked the total available amount is actually showing up as the carryover amount - somehow something is not registering right. This problem is also reflecting in the total available amount when the carryover IS checked. I am emailing you an excel sheet with my numbers per month reflecting both carryover and non carryover totals so that you can see the discrepancy in the month which I made a category transfer (this month) - note my notes on the totals available in the last row.

Re:transfer between categories?
OK I will check the amounts and see. I think I kind of understand the income thing, though not really. we weren't budgeting anything for our income category cause we wanted to be able to just put whatever in it. I really want to be able to get our stuff all squared away and working right for us cause I want to be able to show other people how to set their stuff up on this site. It will probably take some months to sort everything out.

Re:transfer between categories?
Thank you for the comments. In order to calculate the amount to verify if it is correct, first go to January of this year and write down the amount in the spent column. Next to that write down the amount you see in the budget column. Then go to February and do the same thing until you get to August. Then add up the spent column and subtract it from your Total budgeted column and this should give you the amount in the available column for August. If those numbers don't add up, please let us know. Another option is to click on the spend/deposited amount and this will take you to the search transactions page. Then change the dropdown on the left to "This Year" and this will give you a running total for that category up until todays date. Also note that if your budget amount is starting off as a negative amount or overwritten as negative, any withdrawals for the month will further decrease the total available since essentially you've used up the whole budget for the month already. For Income, it works the opposite of expense whereas deposits will reduce your budget amount since you are budgeting a positive number. Once you deposit more than the budgeted amount, the number becomes negative. We'll be changing the color of this from Red to another color since it may be confusing seeing a red amount for extra money. We'll change the verbiage of Total Available for deposit amounts as well. So basically if you are seeing a negative number for an income budget, it means you've deposited more money than budgeted for. We'll modifying this to show a plus sign instead to indicate extra money.

Re:transfer between categories?
Something is just not adding up, I’m sorry. I turned off the carry over feature for that category just to see and it then shows up right on the monthly view, but not on the year to date. I WANT it to carry everything over, and show a smaller budget amount on months after ones that we spent too much. I also still am not sure about how it’s supposed to work with all the income we deposit – our goal would be to distribute it to various categories on top of what our regular budget is, cause we budget for what we know we can make every month and anything extra gets divided out at our discretion monthly. does it not work to have an "income" category to do this? I don't know why it's showing up as a negative balance.

Re:transfer between categories?
Thank you. The other section is due to the carryover feature which not only carries positive balances at the end of the month but also negative balances which may throw off your budget in future months. We are looking into adding an option that will only carry over positive balances but if you turn off carry over in that category, your budget should show up as expected.
