OK, thanks I think I figured it out. I was getting a weird balance using the the site on my mobile device. Perhaps I had a filter set because when I went back to PC my balance was accurate. On the mobile site the balance was off by the value listed under "previous total"

If you are looking a for example a monthly date range like October 1st to October 31st, it comes from the total of all transactions entered before October 1st.
