Thank you for pointing this out. This was an issue on our end so you were understanding this correctly. We have updated the split page so that all entries get saved as either deposit or withdrawal.

Split Transactions
I'm not sure if I'm doing something wrong or just not understanding the "Split Transaction" function.
I select "Splt" from the Transaction Category, select the Payee and Account, select "Deposit" and set the total to 340. Then I allocate 276 under category "Rent" and the remaining 64 is automatically put in the second line, which I allocate under category "Telephone".
When I submit the transaction it shows up as a split transaction but +276 and -64, so the net transaction is 212 instead of 340.
