Yes, when you override your budget, you should see a select box labeled "Number of months". If you change this to "unlimited", it will change the budget amount to a new amount going forward but will leave the past amount as is.

Sorry to bring back an old post, but it's exactly what I was asking:
In the past few years has there been an improvement to this technique? "Override" has always been more of a 'this month needs to change temporarily' than a permanent solution. Has there been a method implemented to simply change a budget line without losing or changing the associated history (carry overs, etc), but keep it free for temporary overrides in the future?

Yes, first click on the name of the budget item to update it, then choose the "Override" link. This will allow you to enter in a month, how much to change the budget to, and how long you want it to occur.

change budget amount from this point forward
Is there a way to change a budget amoung from this point forward. I don't want to affect the carry overs from before but want to increase a budget line "from now on"
