For budgeting, you need to to attach the transactions to sub-accounts but we do offer the ability to apply it to a main category if you don't need to track it in your budget. For moving sub-categories around, the best way is at the top of the My Budget page, click on Categories and you should be able to move your sub-category under any main category.

I think I read something about not needing to use subcategories anymore, like I have a FOOD category with food as a subcategory and I want to not use the subcategory and just put it all directly in the FOOD, but I'm afraid of messing something up. also, I somehow have some subcategories under the wrong category and am not sure how to move them to a different category. I see I could change and update them, but in one case I somehow have two SURPLUS INCOME categories, and so I can't move the one subcategory to the other SURPLUS INCOME since it only comes up as an option once. I'm rather confused about it.
