What I do is list all my transactions a few days ahead (up until the day before payday) and set my transactions shown date to a few days ahead. Then as they clear the bank, I make sure the balances match with the bank balance.
Then if I have a check sent out which hasn't cashed, it will be listed a few days from the last time I balanced my BT and bank account. Then I can see the true balance at the top and see what's still pending in the days before I get paid. I hope this helps.

Re:Bank Account Balance
So are you saying you want to be able to hide the reconciled transactions but view the balance as if they were shown? This will however make the running balance confusing unless we hide the running balance in this scenario. As an alternative, you can filter your transactions by unreconciled only by clicking the more options link in the advanced search section of the My Transactions page.

Re:Bank Account Balance
I have the opposite request of the original poster--I want to see how much I really have (the remaining $20 in the example given) and not just what the bank thinks I have. In order to see that, It seems I have to show EVERY transaction which is really unwieldy in a busy account. Is there a line for "true balance" somewhere that includes all uncleared but pending transactions, and doesn't require me to show every reconciled transaction?

Re:Bank Account Balance
Under advanced search under status you should now see a "Hide All Unreconciled" option. This will allow you to view your total balance without including any unreconciled transactions which should match up with your bank.

Re:Bank Account Balance
Thank you for the feedback. We've added to our todo list a way to view all transactions without the unreconciled transactions being added in. This should give you your existing bank balance.

Re:Bank Account Balance
My bank shows on its website the listing of cleared and pending transactions, with a running balance. Each day, I mark the items which cleared the night before and use the "balance account" function, inputting the bank's running balance after the last cleared transaction. That way, I'm assured that I'm completely in sync with the bank. Then, I make sure that all of the pending transactions have been posted to the transaction register. My transaction register should then tie to the bank's final running balance. Any other transactions - manual checks, etc. - which haven't hit the bank's web site yet can then be posted. Takes me about 10 minutes a day, I'm always reconciled to the bank, and can keep pending transactions cleaned up. After trying to keep Mint and Yodlee cleaned up - it's really a bit of a relief to take a little more manual approach.

Re:Bank Account Balance
If anyone else out there is trying to figure out if their account in Budget Tracker matches up to their bank account. Here is how I did it. Please, if you know an easier way, do share.
**********
Mark everything that has cleared your bank wiht a "C" for cleared.
Go to My Tranactions
Click on Advanced Search
Select the correct bank account
Select Unreconciled
Run the Search
Now you will see a "Sub-Total" at the bottom of the page
For this calculation to work, if the amount is a negative, convert it in your head to a positive. If the amount is a positive, convert it in your head to a negative.
Take "Total Current Balance" and add that ammount in your head to that number.
The answer to that is your Banks Account balance.

Re:Bank Account Balance
I really enjoy this site. It is powerful and full of features that other sites do not have.
I highly suggest the BudgetTracker team decide to make this number automatically shown somewhere. I don't think that we should have to do math to figure out if we are balanced or not. Balancing a checkbook is hard enough.
Please consider showing "Amount Your Bank Shows As Your Balance"

Re:Bank Account Balance
You can use the status of each transaction to determine if it has been cleared by your bank or not. Each transaction should start off as unreconciled. Once the check has reached the bank, you can then mark it as cleared. Then once you receive your statement you can mark the status as reconciled. If you use the Advanced Search filters at the top of the My Transactions page you should be able to see how much is recorded at the bank versus how much you've spent.

Bank Account Balance
I expect to see two account balances. (1) What I really have and (2) what the bank says that I have. Is there a place where the "Bank Account Balance" is displayed?
Just in case I am not clear. Let's say I open my account with $100. I go to bank and withdrawl $20. Then I mail a check to my mom for $50. The check that I mailed will take 2-4 days to get to my mom and then another week or so for her to cash the check. My bank will say that I have $80, but my actual account balance should say $30.
