When creating a transaction, when you select a payee it will prepopulate the most recent category you've chosen which does appear to be working for your case. When selecting a market, we see it defaulting to Groceries. If you are showing the wrong sub-category for a payee, you can edit the transaction to change the sub-category by going to the My Transactions page. If you still see this as not working, please email us the date, amount, and name of the transaction you are having problems with so we can investigate it to support@budgettracker.com

Merchant showing up in wrong sub-category
When I record transaction, the account for payee is showing up as 'household', but I want 'groceries'. I have gone into 'merchants/payees' & it shows up there as 'groceries'- how do I have that show up when I record transaction?
