Firstly, my appreciations for promptly responding to my query.
I think I did not put my query very well. I understand that you want to show opening balance as a transaction. I am perfectly fine with that. I have also verified that there are no two opening balance transactions recorded by me.
Consider my case wherein I just started using BudgetTracker from this month (March 2011). Whatever my account balance was at that time I entered it as my opening balance. Hence 'Previous total' in my transactions page correctly shows the opening balance i had entered.
Now sometimes (not always), an entry by name 'opening balance' with the same amount gets recorded. Assume that I had $100 opening balance in one of my account. The transactions show 'Previous total' as $100 and the first entry is Opening balance - $100. Then 'running balance' adds both and shows the effective total as $200 when in fact I just have $100 in my account.
In case opening balance is added as a transaction, then previous total has to be 0 meaning before opening balance transaction got recorded the account had zero balance. I also see in this case that the total in my credit card shows millions in deficit, clearly a sign of a bug. Its not repeatable. I have seen this only couple of times till now.

If you are are seeing two opening balance transactions, first select the account having the issue and then choose show all transactions to make sure you don't have 2 opening balance transactions recorded. The reason we record it as a transaction is if you view a checkbook or your bank statements, you will also see your initial deposit into the bank as a transaction recorded so this emulates the same behavior.

My Transactions includes opening balance as a transaction entry
Sometimes in My transactions page, an entry by name Opening balance is being shown. Then this amount is added to opening balance shown on first row below an account name effectively doubling the amount. If I change one of the filter parameter such as filter by account name, this opening balance goes off and I see correct balance. Recording opening balance as a transaction is erroneous and totally screws up the running balance.
